The Itoigawa variety is particularly appreciated for its vigorous growth and fine green foliage, making it an excellent choice for bonsai cultivation. Unlike Juniperus chinensis, this variety sheds very little foliage in early summer, making it easier to maintain and especially aesthetic. The trunk, already over 20 years old, features shari (bare section of bark) and jin (deadwood branches), indicative of meticulous craftsmanship and a tree in full maturity. The bark has naturally aged and formed, providing an authentic and natural appearance, while the twisted trunk adds a gnarled character, enhancing the impression of depth and antiquity. This bonsai is a true specimen, with original jin and shari, and should not be confused with tanuki (the technique of grafting a young plant onto a dead stump). The front view was slightly modified during the September 2024 repotting, to better showcase the gnarled trunk, a distinctive feature of this bonsai, while also enhancing its overall visual harmony. Care and Maintenance: This bonsai is ideal for collectors seeking a mature, well-balanced specimen. It will require light pruning to maintain its shape and encourage further ramification. Handcrafted unglazed Yixing Chinese pottery signed: Ø 185*60 mm. Moyogi style. Juniper with graceful branch trays and jins. Itoigawa variety with thin green scales, particularly vigorous, and perfectly suited for bonsai cultivation; it loses very few leaves in early summer, unlike the Juniperus chinensis type. Well-formed bark as this specimen is over 15 years old. No significant wire scars or cutting wounds. Originating from Master Fujiwara's nursery! A true bonsai with original jin and shari, not to be confused with tanuki. Since the repotting was done in April 2023, it will need to be repotted again in April/May 2025. The nebari, with a span of 140/150 mm, anchors this tree in a quality handcrafted Yixing Chinese pottery, with dimensions of 260*260*150 mm, displaying an unglazed finish. Originating from a yamadori of over 60/80 years old, this pine boasts admirable trunk conicity and carefully developed bark. On the backside, a discreet and natural shari adorns the trunk, featuring an aged appearance with cracks that add a natural and authentic effect. The diagonally reclined base of the trunks imparts a distinctive character to this bonsai. This style of pine, relatively rare in collections, will captivate the passionate soul of an enlightened enthusiast. An authentic bonsai adorned with original jin and shari, it clearly distinguishes itself from tanuki counterfeits. Currently ligatured with copper wire, requiring special attention by March 2024, this tree presents no major injuries from wires or cutting.
