The Itoigawa variety is particularly appreciated for its vigorous growth and fine green foliage, making it an excellent choice for bonsai cultivation. Unlike Juniperus chinensis, this variety sheds very little foliage in early summer, making it easier to maintain and especially aesthetic. The trunk, already over 20 years old, features shari (bare section of bark) and jin (deadwood branches), indicative of meticulous craftsmanship and a tree in full maturity. The bark has naturally aged and formed, providing an authentic and natural appearance, while the twisted trunk adds a gnarled character, enhancing the impression of depth and antiquity. This bonsai is a true specimen, with original jin and shari, and should not be confused with tanuki (the technique of grafting a young plant onto a dead stump). The front view was slightly modified during the September 2024 repotting, to better showcase the gnarled trunk, a distinctive feature of this bonsai, while also enhancing its overall visual harmony. Pinus pentaphylla 24010225 ref : 11565 Height of the tree: 850 mm. Width: 700 mm. Brown non-enameled pot : 500*370*120 mm. Moyogi style. This bonsaï is more than 40/50 years old. It comes from seedlings and its trays require to be formed. This tree has a beautiful bark. Diameter of the trunk: about 100 mm. Nebari: 270 mm. Very good conicity of the trunk, no strong wound or mark on the trunk. Nice roots base. It comes from Master Mori's nursery. It may require to be reformed and ligatured in order to refine it. It is a perfect bonsaï to work on during workshops. There are some jins that got patina along years and make that bonsaï much more beautiful. Its original and atypic style and its old aspect are specificities that make it unique. Its owner may change the front face to make that tree much more beautiful. Photographed in January 2022.
