Advice - Watering
Can I use an automatic watering system?
Yes, as long as you set it up at least 1 month before you plan to be away so you can watch how it operates, and you can add sprinklers if necessary. Be aware that nothing can replace you doing the watering yourself, based on your experience, and that automatic watering is just a temporary solution.
What should I do when I go on holiday?
Since many species require watering daily, we strongly recommend that you entrust it to a knowledgeable person. As an amateur, tell them how you water your bonsai. Many professionals also offer caretaking services. Find out about the conditions. Remember – a bonsai that’s not watered for 3 days in summer is doomed or dead already.
What water should I use to water my bonsai?
What water should I use to water my bonsai?
The best is rainwater. Unfortunately it’s not
always possible to get because it depends on the weather. Alternatively tap
water can be used if it’s not too hard: let it rest for 2 days in a container
so that the chlorine dissipates and it can reach room temperature. Otherwise
use bottled spring water or filtered water such as Brita.
