Advice - Pruning

How do I prune my indoor bonsai?
Pruning is done with a very sharp pair of scissors. Shoots that are too long or disrupt the bonsai’s profile are trimmed back to two buds. This makes the foliage denser while keeping the bonsai’s shape. The principle is the same for an outdoor tree.
How should I sharpen my bonsai scissors?

Use a whetstone lubricated with water or oil (first clean off all traces of sap and resin so you don't gum up your stone). To learn techniques for sharpening, visit: http://users.skynet.be/lames/affutage01.html

What tools are a must to get started with bonsai?

You need a chisel with a sharp blade for pruning small branches and twigs, and cutters for pruning larger branches.

How should I care for my tools?
Clean them with a rubber eraser and rub them with an oiled cloth. It is also important to disinfect your scissors regularly so as not to transmit disease.
